Advertising Creative Director Washington, D.C. / Berkeley, CA

Trilogy is looking for an experienced Advertising Creative to join us in Washington, DC or  Berkeley, CA to develop smart, aggressive campaigns with innovative creative that go beyond the status quo and help our clients reach -- and exceed -- their goals.


As Advertising Creative Director, you will serve as a creative bridge between the client teams that manage the day-to-day client marketing programs and our growing Media Buying Team. Drawing on your strong experience with digital advertising, you will help us develop creative for advertising campaigns that draws on the best of political and private-sector advertising, while also investigating new strategies and creative approaches to help our clients succeed.

To accomplish this, our Advertising Creative Director needs to:

  • Brainstorm creative concepts and work with our Media Buying Team to develop advertising campaigns and concepts that focus on maximizing the KPIs of a particular program (acquisition, brand awareness, persuasion, etc).

  • Write creative briefs for visual designers and manage creative development for a variety of ad formats and platforms (Facebook, Search, Programmatic, etc).  

  • Work with Strategists to draft compelling, optimized, and effective ad copy for use in a variety of formats.

  • Work with the Media Buying Team to layer creative thinking and insights into the advertising planning process, matching the most compelling designs with the most impactful copy to reach and engage target audiences.

  • Understand the larger political climate and each client’s particular message, pain points, and political concerns/constraints.

  • Participate in firm-wide creative brainstorming and provide guidance and feedback to designers and project leads on as creative elements come together.

  • Review performance data and recommend adjustments, refreshes, and course corrections to advertising creative as needed over the duration of each campaign.

  • Mentor junior creatives to become more effective at working in the digital advertising medium.

  • Leverage relationships for business development, participate in marketing and proposal development, and represent Trilogy at industry conferences.


Ideal candidates will be college graduates with at least 7 years of professional political, nonprofit, or digital agency experience focused on digital advertising creative. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about digital advocacy and marketing and are committed to making a difference for our clients. Strong communications skills are a must.

  • You've got a political gut: Clients trust you because they know you get it: the politics, the context, the positions, and the issues that drive them

  • You are relentlessly curious about advertising: What's the creative trends in the digital advertising space? How can we use today's news in our work? What's going on in a client's community?

  • You are a leader: You take an interest in the personal and professional growth of your fellow team members.


While direct technical execution is not a required function of this role, we believe that familiarity with the following skills and technologies would be helpful in this role. Please let us know if you have experience with:

  • Advertising reporting, website analytics, and other performance metrics

  • Test design and interpretation

  • Graphic design and video production
